Wie angekündigt besetzten rund 200 AktivistInnen des Protestkollektivs "No Dal Molin" den Flugplatz, um gegen den Beginn der Arbeiten zur Errichtung der US-Militärbasis zu demonstrieren.Männer und Frauen aller Altersstufen hatten am frühen Morgen Gebiete des Zivilflugplatzes besetzt, einige waren auf Gebäude geklettert und hatten Spruchbänder mit Aufschriften wie "Vicenza città di pace" und "Voi demolite, noi costruiamo la pace" gehisst. Mit dem friedlichen Protest wurde ein starkes Zeichen gesetzt und die Arbeiten für einen Tag unterbrochen.

Diese Brigade ist bekannt, weil sie im Jahr 2003, während der ersten Tage der Invasion im Irak, im Norden des Landes eingesetzt wurde, um den Weg nach Bagdad freizumachen.
Das «Dal Molin» Projekt wurde während mindestens drei Jahren vor den Bürgern geheimgehalten. Die ersten Verhandlungen zwischen den USA und der damaligen Regierung Berlusconi hatten bereits im Jahr 2003 stattgefunden, aber der Stadtpräsident von Vicenza, Hullweck, informierte den Gemeinderat erst im Mai 2006, während einer umstrittenen Versammlung hinter geschlossenen Türen, die dem Projekt mit 21 gegen 18 Stimmen zustimmte. Die Bevölkerung fühlte sich hintergangen und formierte sich im Sommer 2006 zum Widerstand.
